Bhishma

Who is Bhishma?

Bhishma is the grand old warrior of the Mahabharata, and one of its noblest characters. As a young prince, he took a terrible vow: he would never marry and never claim the throne, all so his father could marry the woman he loved. That one vow shaped the fate of two generations.

Bhishma is loved because he keeps his word no matter what it costs him. He serves kings he disagrees with, fights in a war he does not believe in, and never breaks his promise. His story shows that even noble promises can lead to tragedy, which makes him one of the most thought-provoking characters in all of mythology.
