Neev (welcoming tone):
Welcome back to Mythical Masala, where ancient stories come alive with drama, wisdom… and sometimes, a bit of disguise.
Co-host (teasing):
Ooooh, disguise? Is this the part where the Pandavas become secret agents?
Neev (smiling):
Close! It’s the 13th year of their exile — the year they must spend completely undercover.
If anyone finds out who they are… the exile starts all over again.
Co-host (mock panic):
Twelve years in the forest wasn’t enough?
Neev (chuckling):
Apparently not. So the Pandavas do what any group of royal warriors would do in this situation…
They each take on a brand new identity — from a music teacher to a cook, to a dance instructor — and hide in the kingdom of Virata.
Co-host (suspicious):
And let me guess — Duryodhana sends spies. Lots of them.
Neev:
Oh yes. He knows they’re out there somewhere — and he’s determined to find them.
But will the Pandavas’ disguises hold? And what exactly are they up to behind the palace walls?
Stay tuned — because this episode has secrets, suspense… and some very sneaky snooping.
Neev (serious but excited):
Twelve years.
Twelve long, wild years of exile… and now it was time for the final challenge.
Co-host (mock suspense):
The thirteenth year — the hide-and-seek championship of ancient India!
Neev (grinning):
Exactly.
The rules were clear:
Stay hidden for one full year…
Don’t get caught.
Because if they were discovered — the whole exile would start over.
Another twelve years.
Co-host (groans):
My knees hurt just thinking about it.
Neev:
So the Pandavas huddled together with their wise priest, Dhaumya, and came up with a plan.
They would live in disguise — in the court of King Virata, ruler of Matsya.
Neev (descriptive):
Yudhishthira became Kanka —
A noble courtier who played dice with the king and dazzled everyone with tales of dharma and politics.
Co-host:
So… pretty much himself but with a fake name? Hopefully, he at least improves his game.
Neev (chuckles):
Yeah! Basically.
Bhima?
He became Vallabha — the royal cook.
But occasionally, he'd step into the wrestling arena and accidentally toss a few massive warriors across the courtyard.
Co-host:
You know, just your average master chef with a side of body-slamming.
Neev:
Nakula — now Dharmagranthi — took charge of the palace stables, training horses with such love and skill they practically neighed poetry.
Sahadeva, as Tantripala, managed the cattle —
protecting them from illness, wild animals, and sneaky thieves.
Co-host (with mock pride):
So thoughtful. So agricultural.
Neev:
And finally… Draupadi.
She became Malini, a humble companion - Sairandhrī to Queen Sudeshna.
Serving quietly, hiding her true grace, her true fire — beneath the silks of a palace attendant.
Co-host: Sairandhrī (सैरन्ध्री) is a Sanskrit term that traditionally refers to a female attendant or maidservant in a royal household — particularly one who helps with personal grooming, dressing, and companionship for queens or princesses.
Neev (lower, thoughtful tone):
Each of them now lived under a new name…
But the danger was real.
They were surrounded by servants, soldiers… and spies.
Duryodhana wanted them found.
He needed them found.
Co-host: Well, at least there weren’t any cameras and social media then. It would be so hard to go into exile and disguise in today’s modern world.
Neev: And the game of disguise… had just begun.
Neev (curious, dramatic tone):
In the bustling palace of King Virata… among the cooks, courtiers, stable boys, and maids…
There was someone who stood out.
Not for battle scars…
Not for a booming voice…
But for their graceful steps…
Glistening hair…
And unmatched skill in music and dance.
Co-host (playful):
Wait — is this another story about Krishna pulling off an undercover act?
Neev (smiling):
Nope. Even Krishna would be impressed by this disguise.
This… was Brihanalla.
Neither quite a man nor woman.
A dance teacher. A music master. A hair stylist.
And now, the favorite of Queen Sudeshna — who just couldn’t figure them out.
Co-host (whispering):
Ooooh. Mysterious palace makeover artist!
Do tell.
Neev:
Brihanalla spoke politely…
Moved gracefully…
And taught princess Uttara and her friends with the elegance of a court-trained maestro.
But behind that calm smile…
Was a warrior.
Co-host: Warrior?? Wait is…
Neev (pause, then reveal):
Brihanalla… was Arjuna.
Co-host (shocked):
WHAT?! I didn’t see that coming.
Neev (grinning):
Yes. Arjuna, prince of the Pandavas.
The unbeatable archer.
The one who brought down mighty warriors with a single arrow.
Co-host:
Now dancing Bharatanatyam and curling hair?
Neev:
Mhm. All thanks to a curse from the apsara Urvashi.
Remember, the time she approached Arjuna — and he turned her down respectfully, calling her like a mother.
Offended, she cursed him — to live as a eunuch for one year.
Co-host: Yes, of course! It was such a weirdly specific curse.
Neev:
Like Krishna says —
"Every curse can be a blessing — if used well."
So Arjuna saved that curse like a secret weapon.
And now? He was invisible in plain sight.
Co-host (amused):
Okay, that’s next-level disguise.
He’s literally teaching classical dance while waiting to pick up his bow again.
Neev (smiling):
Exactly.
And while the world laughed and twirled —
Arjuna listened. Observed. Waited.
His time would come.
Neev (serious, quiet):
The Pandavas were living in disguise.
They kept their heads down. They followed the plan.
But danger… has a way of finding you.
Co-host (tense):
Uh oh. I don’t like where this is going.
Neev: In the palace of Virata, there was one man no one dared to defy —
Kichaka, the commander-in-chief.
He was the Queen’s brother.
Powerful. Arrogant. Dangerous.
Co-host (tense):
Hmmm - I think I know where this is going.
Neev:
Kichaka saw Malini — Queen Sudeshna’s graceful, quiet maid.
He didn’t know she was actually Draupadi.
He only saw her beauty…
and believed that power meant he could do anything.
Co-host (disgusted):
Classic creep. Also poor Draupaid - something bad is always happening to her!
Neev:
He harassed her. Repeatedly.
And when she warned him, saying her five Gandharva husbands would protect her…
he just laughed.
One day, he asked his sister — the queen — to help.
And shockingly, she agreed.
Co-host (incredulous):
Wait — what?!
Neev (grim):
Sudeshna sent Draupadi to Kichaka’s chambers with a jug of wine.
She knew what would happen.
As Draupadi entered, Kichaka grabbed her.
She screamed and ran — right into the palace court.
But Kichaka chased her, dragged her by the hair…
and kicked her in front of everyone.
Co-host (furious):
Not her hair again? And no one stopped him?
Neev:
No one dared.
He was too powerful.
But that night…
Draupadi went to Bhima.
Tears in her eyes.
Fury in her heart.
Co-host: She knows which husband is the best for such talks!
Neev: Bhima listened.
And his silence was more terrifying than any shout.
He said,
“Tell him to meet you again…
in the dark…
alone.”
Co-host (leaning in):
Ooh boy. Somebody’s about to get flattened.
Neev (cold and calm):
That night, Kichaka entered Draupadi’s room.
Smiling. Smug.
But on the couch… was not Draupadi.
It was Bhima.
A battle broke out.
Not with swords.
Not with arrows.
Just bare hands.
Two warriors.
One righteous fury.
And Bhima…
crushed Kichaka’s bones until he lay still — never to harm anyone again.
Co-host:
Justice. Served.
Neev:
The next morning, Draupadi stood tall in the palace court and said:
“My Gandharva husband warned you.
He has punished the wicked.”
No one questioned her after that.
Neev (quietly):
The palace was silent.
But the fear of what had just happened — Kichaka’s death — still echoed in every corridor.
Co-host:
Yeah, I mean… if a Gandharva husband could kill someone that brutally, who’s going to mess with the queen’s maid now?
Neev (smirking):
Exactly.
Sudeshna didn’t dare ask Malini to leave — even though her one-year service was almost done.
So Draupadi stayed… just a little longer.
To finish the thirteenth year in hiding.
Neev (lower voice):
But far away in Hastinapura…
Duryodhana was suspicious.
He had been sending spies across kingdoms — searching for his cousins.
But they found nothing.
Then, he heard the news.
Co-host (in mock reporter tone):
“Breaking News: Commander Kichaka killed by a mysterious Gandharva!”
Neev:
Duryodhana paused.
Gandharva? Strong? Silent? Deadly?
That… sounded a lot like Bhima.
Co-host:
Busted?
Neev:
Not yet.
But close.
Duryodhana hatched a new plan.
He knew the Pandavas would never stand by if their host was in danger.
So — he called in a favor from an old friend…
King Susarma of Trigarta.
Co-host (with fake villain voice):
Trigarta was a kingdom in what is now the state of Himachal Pradesh - most likely at the confluence of 3 rivers - Sutlej, Ravi, and Beas
So Susarma is like:
“Hey, want to help me trap some exiled princes?”
Neev (matter-of-fact):
Susarma already hated King Virata.
He agreed instantly.
The plan was simple:
Attack the kingdom of Matsya.
If the Pandavas fought back…
Their disguises would be revealed.
Game over.
As war clouds gathered,
Yudhishthira went to the king.
He said,
“Your cook… your horse trainer… your cattle herder… and I, the dice player —
We’re more than you think.
Let us fight.”
Co-host (grinning):
Okay, finally! The Avengers assemble! I mean the Pandavas!
Neev (calm but firm):
King Virata looked at them.
A little confused but happy for their help
Neev (energized):
The attack had begun.
From one side, King Susarma and his army charged into Matsya.
The Pandavas — all except Arjuna — rode into battle.
Co-host:
Wait, Arjuna stayed back?
Neev:
Yes, for now! It was too risky to expose him!
On the battlefield, Susarma managed to capture King Virata —
but Bhima, of course, wasn’t having it.
Bhima fought with thunderous strength, freed Virata, and captured Susarma in return.
The Pandavas returned to the palace victorious.
Co-host (cheering):
Yay! Let’s gooo!
Neev (lower, serious):
But… the celebration didn’t last.
From the other side — the Kaurava army attacked.
Led by Duryodhana, Bhishma, Drona, and Karna —
the greatest warriors of their time.
Virata’s son, young Prince Uttar, was the only one left in the capital.
“This is my chance to shine! I shall destroy them all and my father will call me a hero!”
Co-host (mimicking bravado):
Brave… but also pretty clueless.
Neev (dry):
Yeah… about that.
He needed a charioteer.
And that’s when Draupadi quietly told Princess Uttara:
Neev (as Draupadi, whispering):
“Send Brihannala. She… is no ordinary charioteer.”
Co-host (grinning):
Oooooh! It’s happening.
Neev:
So Uttarakumar and Brihannala set off.
The prince was pumped.
Neev (as Uttar):
“I will fight Karna and Bhishma! The world will sing songs about me!”
But as they neared the battlefield…
He saw it.
Co-host:
The Kuru army?
Neev: Yes!
Massive. Armored. Relentless.
In front… the legendary names he had only read about:
Bhishma. Drona. Karna. Duryodhana.
Co-host (quiet gasp):
Uh-oh…Hope he didn’t just run away!
Neev (calmly):
well…. Uttarakumar’s hands began to shake.
His voice cracked.
Sweat poured down his face.
And then…
“I’m sorry. I can’t do this. Turn the chariot around. Please!”
Co-host: Oh no! He did!
Neev (deadpan):
Yes, The great warrior prince…
Jumped off the chariot…
And ran.
Neev (warmly):
And that’s where we leave our story for today.
Co-host: What? What happens next? Did Arjuna have to fight? Did they get exposed?
Neev: for that, You will have to tune in next week.
The thirteenth year of exile is nearly over.
The Kauravas are at the gates.
And the fate of the Pandavas hangs by a thread.
Co-host:
Will their disguises hold?
Will they be discovered before time runs out?
And what happens to poor Prince Uttar, now running from his own battle?
Neev (smiling):
All of that…
And more —
In the next episode of Mythical Masala with Neev
Co-host:
Until then, thanks for listening.
Don’t forget to follow the podcast, and tell your friends about it!
Neev:
See you next time —
For the battle… that will shake a kingdom.
