Neev (Excited):
"Welcome back, myth-lovers! You’re listening to Mythical Masala with Neev — the podcast where ancient epics meet epic drama! I hope you're ready, because today’s story starts with a royal grudge, heats up with a fire-born princess, and ends with... well, let’s just say, something totally unexpected at a wedding!"
Co-host (Curious):
"Ooooh. A wedding in the Mahabharata? That usually means drama, archery, and more drama."
Neev (Grinning):
"Exactly. But this one is unlike anything we’ve heard so far. There’s a swayamvar with impossible challenges, a mysterious group of guests in disguise, and a twist that will leave everyone — especially poor Kunti — a little... confused."
Co-host (Whispering):
“Wait… did you say in disguise?”
Neev:
"Oh yes. So hold on to your bows and get ready — because this episode is straight fire... literally."
Neev (Dramatic):
Our story begins not with a wedding… but with revenge.
King Drupada of Panchala could think of only one thing: the humiliation he had suffered at the hands of his childhood friend turned enemy — Dronacharya.
Co-host:
Wait… this is the Drupada? The one Arjuna captured and delivered as guru dakshina?
Neev:
Yep, that’s him. Ever since that moment, he’d been seething. Furious. Determined to strike back — not with his own hands, but by raising a warrior powerful enough to defeat Drona one day.
Co-host:
So he wanted a kid who could, like, destroy Drona in a one-on-one showdown?
Neev:
Exactly! And for that, he did something pretty extreme — he searched far and wide for the right sages who could help him perform a yajna, a sacred fire ritual, to manifest the kind of child he wanted.
Neev (Mystical tone):
The yajna began. The air was thick with mantras, the fire blazing high as the sacred offerings were poured in. And just when everyone thought the flames might consume everything…
Co-host (whispers):
Something stepped out of the fire!?
Neev (Excited):
Yes! First, a fierce young warrior, glittering in armor, weapons in hand. This was Dhrishtadyumna — born not from a womb, but from fire. His destiny? To defeat Drona.
Co-host:
Whoa. That’s literally hot revenge.
Neev (grinning):
But that wasn’t all. Just after Dhrishtadyumna stepped out, the flames shifted again… and this time, a soft glow appeared. A girl, radiant, graceful, and strong. She was Draupadi, dusky as the twilight sky, her eyes like smoldering embers.
Co-host:
Born from fire?! That’s… amazing.
Neev:
She was no ordinary princess. She would be known by many names —
Panchali, daughter of King Drupada…
Yajnaseni, the one born from yajna…
And soon… as the queen who would shape the fate of kingdoms.
Co-host (Teasingly):
And doesn’t she have a boon from past life too-the reward for kindness that she technically gets in this life….so complicated..
Neev:
Oh-ho, you have no idea how complicated
Neev (Excited):
In the quiet town of Ekachakrapura, life had finally calmed down for the Pandavas. After escaping from a flaming palace, defeating a demon, and being followed by love-struck rakshasi… peace felt a little strange.
Co-host (Playfully):
Yeah, I’m guessing for the Pandavas, “boring” is the real danger.
Neev:
Exactly! So when they heard about a royal swayamvara being held in Panchala — for none other than the beautiful Draupadi — their adventurous hearts were like, “Let’s go!”
But… under cover. Disguised as Brahmanas, they joined the wave of wandering sages, scholars, and students headed to the kingdom of King Drupada.
Co-host: I guess, the other four brothers were feeling left out - now that Bhima was married.
Neev (Dramatic):
The swayamvara hall was packed. Think red carpet event, but for warriors and kings. Every available space was filled — there were suitors from all corners of the land.
Why? Because the bride-to-be wasn't just royalty — she was fire-born, fierce, and famously beautiful.
Co-host (Whistles):
And I’m guessing everyone gasped when they saw her?
Neev:
Oh, totally. When Draupadi entered the hall, there was a collective "WHOAAA!"
She glowed like she still carried the fire she was born from. Every gesture was graceful, every glance powerful. The suitors were swooning... and sweating.
Co-host (Joking):
So did anyone faint dramatically or accidentally walk into a pillar?
Neev (Laughs):
Honestly, probably. But then — drumroll — Dhrishtadyumna stepped forward and announced the real challenge.
Neev (Imitating Dhrishtadyumna’s voice):
“Hear me, princes and kings! My sister Draupadi shall marry the one who can pierce the eye of a spinning fish…”
“But only by looking at its reflection… in this bowl of water!”
Co-host (Shocked):
Wait WHAT?! That’s not a test — that’s way more complicated than even a video game! I would just keep spinning in circles watching the spinning fish.
Neev:
Exactly! All eyes snapped from Draupadi to the enormous bow, the spinning fish-wheel above them, and the mysterious water bowl below.
Neev (Whispers):
The bow was massive. The fish spun fast. And the water... rippled quietly.
Co-host:
Oooh, now I really want to know — who even dared to try?
Neev (Grinning):
Let’s just say… not everyone is cut out to shoot a fish in the eye while upside-down in water-vision.
Neev (With flair):
The swayamvara of Draupadi wasn’t just a royal wedding ceremony. It was a gathering of the who’s who of the entire subcontinent — basically the Olympic finals of archery meets reality show drama!
Co-host (Joking):
The original “Bachelor of All Time”!
Neev:
Every corner of the massive arena held a powerful king, warrior, or prince, there to try their skills and luck .
Co-host (Laughing):
So who are these contenders?
Neev (Announcer-style):
From Hastinapura — the infamous hundred Kaurava brothers, led by Duryodhana. Armed, armored, and extremely overconfident.
Co-host:
Of course, he probably thought today was the day he was going to get married. Wasn't Karna there too?
Neev:
Yes, along with Karna, we also have the sly and scheming Shakuni, prince of Gandhara.
Co-host: Gandhara - That’s basically present-day Afghanistan. He’s Gandhari’s brother and Duryodhana’s mastermind uncle. Trust him to always have a loaded dice… and a loaded opinion.
Neev:
Then there was Ashwatthama, son of Guru Drona himself. A powerful warrior — and spoiler alert: he’s not going anywhere. He’ll show up in some major battles later with seriously intense consequences.
Neev (Dramatically):
Well then there’s King Jarasandha of Magadha! Massive, powerful, undefeated in war
Co-host (Nudging): Ohhh yeah! Isn’t he the one who had a weird birth story?
Neev:
Yep! Born in two halves and magically fused by a rakshasi. — and he’s a constant pain in Krishna’s side. Speaking of which, we have both Krishna and his brother Balarama - princes of Dwarka present at the Swayamvara as well.
Co-host (Nudging):
If you all remember, Krishna is one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu. We did a couple of episodes on his birth and childhood in Season 1. He is a major character and influencer in the Mahabharata. And folks - this is his entry in this grand epic.
Neev: That’s right!
Neev (Continuing):
Then we have King Shalya of Madra — known for his calm exterior and warrior skill… and later, well, let’s just say he plays a tricky role in the Mahabharata war.
Next — the King of Kalinga, fierce and proud, ancestor to some later kings like Ashoka the Great. His warriors were known for their battlefield bravery.
And of course — King Virata, ruler of the Matsya kingdom, a name we’ll definitely revisit later. Spoiler: his palace becomes important when the Pandavas go into hiding.
Co-host:
Wow, what a lineup. And I am sure, every king is dreaming of victory
Neev: Yup, and so…one by one they began to try.
Co-host (Imitating a royal announcer):
“Bring on the bow!”
Neev (Chuckles):
King after king walked up to the stage. Some couldn’t even lift the massive bow, let alone string it. Others strung it halfway — then snap! it recoiled like an angry snake.
Co-host:
Ouch. That must’ve hurt their pride and their wrists.
Neev:
Then came the archers who managed to aim. Duryodhana, confident as ever — aimed, shot, and… missed the fish’s eye by a finger’s width.
Co-host:
Close, but nope! Sorry DD - Not getting the girl this time!
Neev:
Shishupala, another important name for later, missed by the width of a sesame seed. Yes, seriously. His glare could’ve melted a mountain.
Co-host (Deadpan):
And somewhere in the crowd, Draupadi was probably thinking, “Next.”
Neev:
One by one, they all tried. And one by one, they failed.
Co-host: Even Karna, who could probably give Arjuna a run for his money, almost got there - but alas - couldn’t do it!
Neev (Softly):
The once-booming hall now sat quiet — kings sulking in their seats, disappointed sighs echoing under the grand dome.
Co-host (Pause):
Royal egos were bruised. Heads were hung. And then...
Neev (Deep voice):
“Can a Brahmana try his hand?”
Neev: All heads swung to look at the audacity of this naïve brahman. It seemed he was eager to make a fool of himself, hoping for success in a sport meant for Kshatriyas.
Co-host (Mock gasping):
What?! A brahman? This is a royal swayamvara, not a school archery demo!
Neev (Chuckling):
That was exactly what most of the crowd was thinking! Their heads whipped around so fast, I bet someone got whiplash. Who was this gutsy guy?
Co-host:
And you know all those defeated kings were like, “Well, at least now someone will do worse than us!”
Neev:
But just when everyone was ready to laugh at the “silly brahman,” Draupadi’s brother — the fierce Dhrishtadyumna — stood up and shocked the hall.
Co-host (Regal tone):
“The contest is open to all,” he announced. “Let him try.”
Neev (Grinning):
Oooh, you could feel the drama level rise. This unknown brahman stood up — tall, calm, powerful. Not like a nervous student. More like... a champion in disguise.
Co-host:
I am sure they were thinking “Did anyone notice that his arms looked more “warrior gym” than “brahmana yoga class”?
Neev:
Oh, totally. He walked toward the stage like he owned it. The massive bow was waiting. Remember, most kings couldn’t even lift it. And here comes this guy...
Co-host (Excited):
He lifts it. Effortlessly. No huffing, no puffing.
Neev (Dramatic):
He strings it with a smooth, practiced grace. Then… silence. You could hear a pin drop. The air froze. Even the spinning fish seemed to slow down.
Co-host:
Wait… this was that fish-on-a-wheel-over-a-water-bowl challenge, right?
Neev:
Yup! The archer had to hit the eye of the fish, but only by looking at its reflection in the bowl of water. No direct aim.
Co-host (Sarcastically):
Easy. Like threading a needle while riding a roller coaster.
Neev (Chuckles):
Exactly. But the brahman? Calm. Focused. Like a statue… except statues don’t breathe this confidently. His eyes locked on the reflection. He pulled the arrow back.
Neev (Softly):
Woosh.
Neev (Triumphant):
Bullseye! The fish’s eye was pierced, perfectly. The audience gasped — then erupted in applause!
Co-host:
What. Just. Happened.
Neev:
The hall exploded in cheers. Demigods in the sky were showering flowers! Dhrishtadyumna was stunned. Draupadi… well, she was stunned, and excited, and….
Co-host:
And all the princes who failed? Sitting there like… “Did that brahman just out-bow us all?!”
Neev (Excitedly):
The swayamvara hall… was in chaos.
Co-host (Dramatically):
The kings had just been defeated… by a brahman! The humiliation! The heartbreak! The bruised egos!
Neev (Laughing):
Some of them were like, “Was the bow rigged?!” Others were reaching for their swords.
Neev:
They weren’t just sore losers — they were raging losers. Enraged kings rushed toward the Pandavas, ready to attack.
Co-host:
But they didn’t know.. they weren’t just any five brahmans. They were the Pandavas.
Neev (Heroic):
And Bhima? Well, Bhima looked around, grabbed a tree — yes, an actual tree — and used it like a baseball bat.
Co-host (In awe):
That man doesn’t believe in weapons. He just invents new ones on the spot.
Neev:
In the chaos, Krishna — sitting quietly in the crowd — watched everything with a knowing smile.
Co-host (Softly):
He recognized them. The brave, determined boys who had escaped the burning house in Varnavat. The sons of Pandu.
Neev:
Krishna didn’t interfere. Not yet. The time wasn’t right.
Neev:
Using the distraction, the Pandavas slipped away with Draupadi. Their hearts were pounding — partly from the fight, partly from the thrill.
Co-host:
I bet, They couldn’t wait to get home and tell their mother. They’d just won a princess!
Neev (Softly):
At home, Kunti was in the kitchen, preparing a simple meal for her sons. The boys came rushing in, voices overlapping:
Pandavas (Excitedly):
“Mother! You won’t believe what we’ve got today!”
Kunti (Distracted):
“Whatever it is, dear ones… share it equally among yourselves.”
Co-host:
Wait. Share it?
Neev (Gently):
Yudhishthira’s jaw dropped. Arjuna looked at Draupadi. Draupadi looked back. Bhima blinked.
Co-host (Whispering):
How do you share… a bride?
Neev (Wryly):
Exactly. The room froze in awkward silence. Kunti turned around and… saw Draupadi.
Neev:
In that moment, she understood what had happened. The swayamvara. The challenge. The victory. .
Co-host:
And her own words. I guess she should have known.
Neev:
But Kunti was wise. She had raised her sons with love and unity. If Draupadi was to enter their lives, she would unite them too.
Co-host: So Draupadi marries all five brothers. Well, this kind of a thing was ok back then. And remember folks - this is mythology. Technically anything goes!
Neev:
As they all were grappling with this surprising situation… Dhrishtadyumna, Draupadi’s brother had sneakily followed them!
Co-host: Sneaky royal sibling mode activated!
Neev (Laughing):
That’s right! He returned to King Drupada and told them:
“They’re the Pandavas. All of them. With their mother, Kunti. The rumors were true. They survived the fire.” Drupada’s eyes lit up at the name Arjuna. He was happy that Draupadi was marrying him.
Co-host: And at the same time, he wasn’t too happy at the news that Draupadi was to marry all five. “Excuse me?! One son-in-law turned into five?! I asked for an archer, not a family reunion!”
Neev:
But before he could object, the great sage Vyasa appeared and told them of the boon from her past life.
Co-host (Softly):
Oh right! Something about husbands with all qualities so she just got five husbands.
Neev:
Yeah! Draupadi — born of fire, a symbol of grace, strength, and destiny — became the wife of all five Pandavas. Not out of confusion. But by cosmic design.
Neev (Reflective, Warm):
What an episode! A fire-born princess, an impossible archery challenge, a secret identity revealed, and… not one, but five grooms!
Co-host (Playfully teasing):
This isn’t just a myth… this is a masala mix of destiny, drama, and divine design!
Neev (Laughing):
Exactly! But while love and celebration filled the Pandava camp, not everyone in the kingdom was going to be thrilled. Especially a certain jealous cousin who thought the Pandavas were long gone...
Co-host (Serious tone):
What happens now?
Neev (Hinting):
Let’s just say... it’s not going to be that predictable.
Neev (Closing):
Don’t miss the next episode of Mythical Masala with Neev, where family politics, royal power, and dharma collide once again. Until then, stay curious, stay kind, and remember — every myth hides a message.
